Our Mission

The Technology Commercialization Office is responsible for managing the intellectual properties of the University of Utah. TCO's mission is to facilitate the commercialization of the University's scientific and technical research findings for the benefit of the citizens of Utah and the general public through the efficient and effective evaluation, management, protection and licensing of the University's intellectual property.  

Our Goals

In support of its mission, the Technology Commercialization Office primary goals are:

  1. Develop an effective and efficient technology transfer and commercialization program and assess documents and communicate the full value of technology commercialization activities
  2. Enhance the University's research environment by encouraging and assisting faculty members, staff and students to consider alternate applications of technology developed as part of their research and to protect the University's intellectual property
  3. Generate revenue for the University of Utah, from public and private sources, by utilizing various technology licensing and research funding strategies
  4. Promote economic growth in the region and the State of Utah by facilitating collaborations and establishing lasting business relations with the public and private sectors
  5. Ensure public benefit from the University of Utah research and applied technologies
